chocolate bread and butter pudding

200g plain chocolate

75g unsalted butter

225g fruited bun loaf or light teabread

1tsp vanilla essence

1/2 level tsp ground cinnamon

3 eggs

25g caster sugar

600ml milk

cocoa powder and icing sugar for dusting

lightly grease the sides of a 1.7 litre ovenproof dish.

Break up the chocolate and put into a heatproof bowl.

Add 25g of the butter and place in the simmering oven for 15 to 20 minutes until melted.

Stir lightly.

Cut the fruited bread into thin slices and arrange a third of the slices overlapping in the prepared dish.

Spread with half the chocolate sauce. Arrange half the remaining bread in the dish and spread with the remaining sauce.

Finally arrange the last of the bread slices in the dish.

Melt remaining butter.

Remove from heat and stir in vanilla essence cinnamon eggs sugar and milk.

Beat thoroughly then pour over the bread. Leave to stand for 1 hour.
