onion bread

350g strong plain flour

1 sachet easyblend yeast

1 tsp salt

1 tbsp vegetable oil

1/2 packet onion soup mix

300m1 warm water

egg for glazing optional

Measure the flour yeast salt and soup mix into a food processor or mixing bowl.

Add the oil and enough warm water to make a dough.

Remove from the bowl and knead until smooth and stretchy.

Grease and flour a 700g loaf tin.

Put in the bread dough.

Stand the tin on top of a folded tea towel or mat on top of the simmering plate cover with a clean tea towel until doubled in size.

Brush with egg if using.

Put the oven shelf on the bottom set of runners of the roasting oven put in the bread and bake for 30 to 40 minutes until risen golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the.bottom.

Cool on a wire rack.

This makes a good bread for picnics and weekend lunches. It is quick to make especially if you have the use of a food processor.

Makes 1 medium sized loaf
