mild lentil curry

220g yellow lentils (toor dal) soaked im water for 30 minutes and drained

1 teaspoon turmeric powder

1 teaspoon cumin seeds bruised

1 teaspoon asafoetida

2 tablespoons ghee

Cook the lentils in 750ml hot water until they are very soft.

Add the turmeric powder cumin seeds asafoetida and salt.

Simmer for 5 minutes.

Serve over boiled plain rice with a spoonful of ghee.

This recipe is a lentil dish eaten in Maharashtra both in tiny peasant homes and opulent city apartments.
