tangy lentil curry

1 teaspoon gram lentils

450ml water

4 teaspoons sunfower oil

1 teaspoon black mustard seeds

1 teaspoon fenugreek seeds

1 teaspoon aniseed

1 teaspoon ajowan seeds

2 bay leaves

1 large onion chopped finely

1 teaspoon turmeric powder

4 teaspoons lemon juice

salt

Simmer the lentils in the water until soft.

Heat the oil in a pan and add the mustard seeds.

When they pop add all the other seeds and the bay leaves.

Fry for a minute.

Add the onions and fry until golden.

Pour in the cooked lentils and add the tummeric lemon juice and salt.

Simmer for 5 minutes to blend well.

This recipe is a basic lentil dish that can be eaten with rice or rotis.

Serves 4
